Alexander Lex Ferrauiola

Deacon Lex Ferrauiola was a husband, father, and grandfather. Married in 1968 to Wanda, his high school sweetheart and soulmate, they were the parents of Danny, David, Julie and Meg; the grandparents of Duncan, Harrison, and Grayson; and the in-laws of Mike. Ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey in 1992, he has been serving Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Tenafly, NJ as a pastoral minister and spiritual director for over 29 years. In addition to the parish community, Deacon Lex ministers as a hospital chaplain in Behavioral Health serving our sisters and brothers who suffer with emotional and psychiatric pain and addiction. He retired from his position as a Vice President at a major academic medical center in the Northeast in 2011 where his responsibilities included executive leadership of information technology, pastoral care and volunteer services. Deacon Lex has published four books on Catholic spirituality: "Just to Follow My Friend: Experiencing God’s Presence in Everyday Life", "The Gospel of You, The Gospel of Me: Making Christ Present in Everyday Life", "Synchronicity as the Work of the Holy Spirit: Jungian Insights for Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Ministry", and “All Shall Be Well: Finding God Among the Pots and the Pans”. He also publishes a blog of spiritual reflections and homilies at www.deaconlex.blogspot.com. To-date there have been readers in over 42 countries. He holds a master's degree in pastoral ministry from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota where his research thesis deals with the use of insights from Jungian psychology for spiritual direction and pastoral ministry. Deacon Lex is also a graduate of the Haden Institute for Spiritual Direction. This is a two-year program run by the Haden Institute and the Carmelite Fathers at Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls, Canada. Since graduation in 2012 he has been serving on the faculty of the Institute. Deacon Lex holds an 8th degree black belt from the Richard Chun TaeKwonDo Center/Moo Duk Kwan Headquarters. He is certified by the World TaeKwonDo Federation in Korea and the U.S. TaeKwonDo Association. He and his wife Wanda have been teaching TaeKwonDo since 1977 and have started clubs in Tenafly, Cresskill, Newark and Hackensack. The wake will be on Sunday, July 26th from 4-8pm at Barretts Funeral Home in Tenafly, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27th at 11am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Tenafly, NJ.
