Augustin Jimenez

Augustin Jimenez, better known as Augie to all that knew him, was born April 25, 1948. He was raised in the Bronx, New York by his grandmother, the matriarch of the family, who instilled and formulated his early ethical and religious values which he would follow and implement throughout his life. He attended NYC public schools and went on to attend college in the CUNY (City College of New York) system. First achieving his associate degree at Bronx Community College and then his bachelor's degree in history from Lehman College. He then attended Fairleigh Dickinson University to earn an accounting degree and a master's degree in taxation. While attending college, he met Lillian Rivera through a mutual friend. It was Lillian and Augie’s mutual love of salsa music and dancing that would take them through a 3-year courtship. They would marry on December 20th, 1969, which was the beginning of a loving journey of 56 years of marriage. He and Lilllian lived in Englewood, New Jersey for 32 years where they raised two children, Jonathan William and Bianca Janelle. Augie was not only a devoted father, but he was also a devoted parishioner at Saint Cecila’s Church. There he became a member of the Knights of Columbus, Madonna Council. Augie’s professional career began in Sales, with the Beech-Nut Baby Foods company then he moved onto Nabisco for almost 17 years. He would then use his master’s degree in taxation to begin a twenty-year plus career as a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service. As an IRS agent he worked auditing car dealerships, money exchange businesses, gentleman’s clubs and large Fortune 500 companies. After becoming empty nesters, Augie and Lillian retired to Wallace, North Carolina where they began their next phase of their lives. They would reside there for 15 years where he learned how to play golf, ride his bike around the neighborhood, and worked on his Star Trek models to decorate his favorite room in the house, his man cave. He truly was a quintessential Star Trek fan. He also put together more than 25 puzzles which he proudly exhibited all around the house including the garage. The Church once again was a major focus in his life where he was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church and a church council member. He traveled extensively across the world including many European countries, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and the country most high on his bucket list Egypt. A year ago, a decision was made to return to the Northeast, and he and Lillian moved to Smyrna, Delaware to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Family was one of the most important things in his life, that always came first. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian, his son Jonathan William, daughter Bianca Janelle, as well as grandchildren: William “Will” Andrew, Tessa Joy, Adam Augustin, daughter-in law Karlee Jimenez, and many other family and friends too numerous to name.
