Carol Anne Petrovich

Carol Ann Petrovich (nee Racich), 93, of Tenafly, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, at her home of 68 years. Born September 29, 1932, and raised in Bergenfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Eleanor Maurer (nee Seddon) and John William Racich. She was the wife of Anthony William Petrovich, who preceded her in death in 1985. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Racich, of Cresskill, New Jersey. Carol is lovingly remembered by her sons: Scott William Petrovich of Naples, FL (grandsons Kyle and Kevin) and Mark John Petrovich of Burke, VA (granddaughters Alexandra and Catherine). She always proudly and lovingly maintained enriching and supportive relationships with her children and grandchildren. Carol graduated from Bergenfield High School in 1950, and then from William Patterson College in 1954, with a degree in Education. She began her lifelong career as an educator briefly in Tenafly (Mackay Elementary School), and then moved to Cresskill (Merritt Memorial Elementary School), where she taught specialized reading and math. Her proud full-time commitment to public education lasted more than 30 years. Within that time, Carol went back to William Patterson on a part-time basis, and earned her Masters plus 40. After retirement, she continued to share her experiences and special gifts by mentoring and supporting beginning teachers and educators entering the school system, as well as tutoring young students. A proud member of the Church of the Atonement in Tenafly for over 60 years, Carol demonstrated her strong faith through her tenacity and willingness to give her time, energy and resources to others. Over the years, she served as Vestry member, Eucharistic Minister, and 20-year Confirmation Teacher. She led Stewardship and Parish Life ministries, and served on the Outreach Committee and Altar Guild. Carol was also co-chair of the Church Fair for 20 years. She volunteered at Parish Soup Suppers, Newcomer welcomes and other outreach events to support and uplift the greater community. There is not a piece of the church that she didn’t influence or support. In addition to her family and church, Carol fostered friendships with people of differing ages and generations. The loyalty she displayed toward those she was close to created lasting relationships that she cherished. Carol also had a love of travel, and was blessed to visit all over the county and world with her travel partners. Visitation will be held at Church of the Atonement, 97 Highwood Ave, Tenafly, NJ 07670 at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 18, 2026, followed by Holy Eucharist service at 11:00 am in the Church, The Reverend Lynne Bleich Weber as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Atonement at the above address.
