Elvira Papa

Elvira Papa, age 105 of Alpine, NJ passed away peacefully on November 5, 2022 . Beloved wife of the late Guido Papa, loving mother of Philip (Anna), Guido (Elena), and Maria (Joseph Berardo), dedicated Grandmother to eight grandchildren, Steven (Lisa), Gina (Sam), Marc, Lauren (Chris), Michael (Liz), Julie Anne (Chris), Joseph and Jennifer (Tim) and eight great grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Elvira was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1917 and moved to Benevento, Italy at age 3 with her family. She moved back to the U.S. in 1939 and was rejoined with her husband after the war. She worked as a seamstress for many years to support her family. Elvira was a long time resident of Jersey City and Secaucus where she was an active member in the Immaculate Conception Church. As the last surviving sibling, her passing sadly marks the end of a generation for the Papa family. Elvira was the matriarch of the Papa family and cared most about the well-being of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elvira enjoyed cooking and eating delicious pasta to be shared with family and friends. She will always be remembered as a selfless woman who dedicated her life taking care of others. She will be sorely missed. Visitation at Barrett Leber Funeral Home, 148 Dean Dr., Tenafly, NJ on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at St. Therese of Lisieux Church, 120 Monroe Ave, Cresskill, NJ at 10am. Elvira will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, 340 Ridge Rd, North Arlington, NJ.
