George D Callas

George Dean Callas, born August 12, 1957, passed away peacefully in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones on April 19, 2026. George was predeceased by his parents, Constantine G. Callas and Kathryn Callas. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty years, Maura, and his cherished sons: Dean (Nora) and their children Penelope, Augustus, and Constantine; Nick; and Andreas (Grace), all of whom he was very proud and loved dearly. He also leaves behind his devoted sister Yvonne (Mark), nephew William, niece Katherine (Jack), many loving relatives and friends, and his treasured dog, Yates. George graduated from Cresskill High School in 1975, where he excelled in both football and basketball and was later inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He went on to attend the College of William & Mary on a full scholarship, where he played Division I football and was a varsity starter on the “suicide squad,” a specialized kickoff team. Upon earning a degree in accounting, George began a successful career as a Wall Street trader. He held numerous positions in the financial and banking sectors before semi-retiring to Florida, where he served as an Executive Advisor for Galoy. George embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He enjoyed surfing, gardening, hunting, following sports, and traveling, but above all, loved fishing. He delighted in organizing memorable fishing trips with family and friends to Florida, the Hamptons, and the Carolinas. George’s creative ability was never more evident than when he was behind the camera lens. George had a remarkable eye and passion for capturing beauty through the lens, exhibiting and selling many of his prints over the years. George’s magnanimous spirit, sense of humor, and gregarious nature will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Friends and relatives may pay their respects at Barrett Leber Funeral Home in Tenafly on Sunday, April 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Theologian on Monday, April 27, at 10:00 a.m., interment at City Island Cemetery immediately following.
