Geraldine L Gaglio

Mrs. Geraldine “Geri” Gaglio (née Manzi) of Tenafly, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, August 12th, 2024. In her 88 years of life, Geri found joy in knitting and crocheting, spending time at the pool club and playing mahjong with her friends, gardening, her strong faith, and many other things, but most of all in her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and cat-grandma. Geri was born on October 29th, 1935 in the Bronx, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Sylvia Manzi, and by her beloved husband of 55 years, Paul Gaglio. She is survived by her son, Paul Gaglio, daughter-in-law, Cory Gaglio, daughter, Maria Gaglio, daughter, Tina Gaglio, son-in-law, Thomas Terranova, and grandchildren Paul, Christina, Jeffrey, Julia, Amanda, and Thomas, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Sami and Niko, who knew her as “Gogo”. Geri is also survived by her sister, JoAnn Leanza and her husband, Frank, and brother, Joseph Manzi and his wife, Linda, as well as her many beloved nieces and nephews. Geri took pride in her beautiful family and deeply valued all the time they had together. Geri watched all of her grandchildren in their infancy, and even had the opportunity to watch two of her great-grandchildren. Nothing was more important to Geri than her family, and her loved ones always knew how much she cherished them. Geri graduated from St. Simon Stock high school in 1953. She and Paul were married in 1961 and raised their children in Manhattan before moving to Tenafly in 1973. Geri had a wonderful life as a member of her church and community. She worked as a key punch operator at IBM as well as an office manager and a hostess at The Clinton Inn. She also volunteered in the library of the Tenafly public schools, where her children frequently visited her for extra money to buy cookies. Geri was many things, but above all she was kind, generous, patient, and fun-loving. If there was a new addition to your family, chances are Geri gifted you a lovingly hand-knit sweater and hat. She also knit blankets and hats to donate to infants in local hospitals. She tried many times to teach her daughters and granddaughters to knit and crochet as well, with varying levels of success. Geri took great pride in her garden and loved growing tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. If you had a visit with her in the summer, it was rare she didn’t send you home with a bag full of produce. Geri spent summers doing what she loved best, taking the sun and swimming at the Tenakill Swim Club, where she was a member for over forty five years. Geri also played a weekly game of mahjong with her girlfriends. She and Paul loved to travel together and took many trips with their family and friends, including Hawaii, Italy, Aruba, and many cruises. Geri took great joy in good food, be it cooking for her family or going out to eat and having a bloody mary or two. Overall, Geri's life was full - of family, love, laughter, and fun. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A viewing will be held at the Barrett Leber Funeral Home 148 Dean Dr Tenafly on Thursday 5-8PM The funeral mass will take place at St Therese Church 120 Monroe Ave Cresskill on Friday at 10AM
