Mary Goetz

With profound sadness the family of Mary Goetz announces her passing on June 10, 2026, at the age of 97. Born in Tenafly, New Jersey, to Maria and Vincenzo DiLuzio, Mary was a woman whose life was defined by love, devotion, faith, and family. She graduated from Tenafly High School in 1946 and, in 1951, married the love of her life, Gerhardt “Gerry” Goetz. Shortly after their marriage, Mary and Gerry built their home in Demarest, New Jersey, where they raised their family and created a lifetime of cherished memories. Mary remained a proud Demarest resident for more than 70 years in the community she called home. A woman of strong faith, Mary was a lifelong Catholic. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Tenafly and later worshipped at St. Joseph’s Church in Demarest. Mary’s greatest joy was her family. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and loved. Her home was the heart of countless family gatherings, where her warmth and generosity were always on full display. She was an exceptional homemaker and a talented cook whose famous stuffing became a treasured family tradition. Mary embraced life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time at the Jersey Shore, tending to her yard, losing herself in a good book and traveling with Gerould and Carol. She followed sports with enthusiasm and loved watching tennis with Christopher and cheering on the many teams coached by her grandson Matthew at Tenafly High School. Nothing made her happier than watching those she loved succeed and celebrating their accomplishments. She also had a special affection for her beloved granddogs, whose companionship brought her endless happiness and comfort. Mary is survived by her loving son, Gerould Goetz and his wife, Carol; a daughter, Susan Mirabito of Norwood and her cherished grandsons, Matthew Mirabito of Park Ridge and Christopher Mirabito of Norwood. She also leaves behind many dear relatives and friends who were blessed by her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love. Mary will be remembered for her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart. She taught those around her the importance of family, faith, loyalty, and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Care of Hackensack Meridian Health, the American Heart Association, or to the Humane World for Animals.
