Dayton R Grimm
January 6, 2022
Dayton Robert Grimm, 81, of Tenafly, NJ, passed away at home on January 6th 2022 with his wife and son by his side, from a brief illness. He was a lifetime resident of Tenafly, passing in the same home he grew up in and loved. Surviving are his wife Sally, son Sean, brother Pete, two nephews (Peter, Daniel), and two nieces (Stacy, Laura). Dayton was loved by many in his community. One of his favorite places to go was the local Benjamin Brothers store and the Elk’s lodge to see his friends, always accompanied by his pitbulls. He was a master electrician with the Local 3 IBEW and provided 42 years of legendary service, accompanied by his brother (Pete), a fellow electrician and Local 3 member. Dayton was also a longtime member of the Tenafly Elks, serving as a trustee for several years. He enjoyed many hobbies such as collecting Lionel model trains, gardening in his “paradise-like” backyard, taking on new projects with his son, softball pitching in several men’s leagues, and coaching Tenafly pee-wee recreational football. He was often seen taking his dogs for a walk, smoking his premium cigars, enjoying one of his many fine choices of bourbon, and throwing incredible summer BBQ parties. In his younger years, he was a part of a motorcycle club called the Dirty Dozen, riding his motorcycle all over the country, where he eventually met his wife Sally at Hart’s restaurant in New Hampshire. She was his waitress and he swept her off her feet, hopping on the back of his motorcycle, and enjoying 34 years of marriage. Dayton got to see his only son walk in his footsteps by joining the very same IBEW Local 3 union, continuing the family legacy of electricians. There will be a memorial service for Dayton at Barrett Leber funeral home on the 22nd of January from 2-5 pm. All are welcome and his family asks in lieu of any flowers, donations to the ASPCA or any local animal shelters is preferred.
