Donald Ames Legg Sr

Donald Ames Legg, Sr., passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the age of 93. He was born on January 30, 1929, in Oradell, New Jersey, and grew up and raised his family in Tenafly, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, June, and seven children, Donnie (Stephanie, deceased), Leslie (Michael), Jill (Scot), John (Charlotte), Jenifer (Steven), Michael (Nancy) and Tony; 14 grandchildren, Eliza, Leigh, Kramer, Anna, Amanda, Michael, Paul, Christian, Mickey, Ali, Cassie, Charlie, Mallory and Steve; and great-grandchildren, Rory and Paige. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry Legg and Mildred Ames; sister, Jean Riseley; and grandchildren Jack Jakubek and Carl Legg. Don was an alumnus of Blair Academy and Colgate University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Coast Guard and went on to be a corporate executive at Union Carbide. He was a lifetime member of the Englewood Field Club. June and their children have fond memories of their yearly camping trips and travelling in their VW bus. He and June retired to Brewster, Cape Cod, where they resided for thirty years. Don enjoyed his time there biking, sailing, golfing, playing softball, tennis, and driving his 1980 red Jeep CJ-7. He was a kind, generous father, a lover of horses and animals. He loved a good party, a stiff drink, and sharing his life stories. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Services will be private.
