MAYWOOD, NJ. Joseph Paulic, commercial artist and long-time resident of northern New Jersey, succumbed to cancer on April 9, 2021. He died at his Maywood home surrounded by his wife, Catherine (Koreh) Paulic, his eldest son Thomas Paulic of Budapest, and his youngest son Ian Paulic of Maywood. Joe Paulic was born April 7, 1938, in Celje, Slovenia, part of the former Yugoslavia. His parents were Aloiz Paulic and Marija Tamse, and his siblings were Slavko, Martin and Terezia. He was educated at the Gimnazija Celje, followed by further studies in art and design at the Slovenian Art Academy in Ljubljana. From early youth, he carried with him a deep appreciation and fondness for his homeland, for its people, and for Slovenian folk art, crafts, cuisine and music. In 1962 at age 24, Joe left Yugoslavia and emigrated to the United States, where he settled in New York City. There, he furthered his artistic education at the School of Visual Arts. He launched his own commercial firm, Joseph Paulic Design, where he specialized in the creation of packaging for consumer goods, with an expertise in packaging and displays for perfumes and colognes. Joe was very engaged in the “Big Brothers/Little Brothers” charity. He loved nature and belonged to the Sierra Club. He loved hikes in the woods and sunlight in the sky. He toured Europe and the United States extensively by motorcycle. In 1986, while on a hike organized by the Sierra Club, he met Catherine Koreh. They married on December 19, 1987 in Bogota, New Jersey. Their union was blessed with two sons: Thomas, born in 1988; and Ian, born in 1991. Joe loved his family and his home. He enjoyed cooking and baking, working on projects in their Maywood, New Jersey residence and cultivating the garden. He regularly visited Slovenia and kept in touch with relatives and friends there. He delighted in a good meal, a fine glass of wine, and the company of good friends. Funeral arrangements are being managed by the Barrett Leber Funeral Home, Tenafly, New Jersey. Visitation at Barrett Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 10AM to 12PM with service beginning at 12PM. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, 425 Engle St., Englewood, NJ 07631.
