Katina Paspalas

March 21, 2022

Katina Paspalas, (nee: Backus), passed away peacefully at her home in Florida on Monday, March 21, 2022. Born in 1932 in the Bronx, Katina was later raised in White Plains in Westchester County and later graduated from White Plains High School. After Katina helped her parents Alex and Irene settle into their retired home in Germantown NY in the Hudson Valley, she moved to NYC and worked in sales at B. Altman on 5th Ave. Katina met George at Stella and George Vagias’s engagement party in Washington Heights NY. In December of 1952 George and Katina were engaged. April 19, 1953 Katina and George were married at St Spiridon Greek Orthodox Church in Washington Heights NY. Katina and George moved to Cresskill in 1962, after living in Washington Heights together for nine years. She enjoyed going to The Met, the Opera House and the Metropolitan Art Museum. She celebrated the biggest holiday for her which was Greek Easter. Katina was an avid reader and volunteered at the Englewood Hospital for 9 years (500 hours).. Mother of Andrew and his wife Alexandra, Alex and his wife Jeanni, and Anne Fotopoulos and her husband Andreas. Adored YiaYia of Katherine, Victoria, Kayla, Melissa and Matthew. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and her best friend Stella Harlan Vagias. Visitation at the Barrett -Leber Funeral Home 148 Dean Dr Tenafly on Thursday 6-9 PM. Funeral Service Friday 12PM at St John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Cathedral 353 E Clinton Ave Tenafly. Interment Brookside Cemetery Englewood. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cathedral or The Epilepsy Foundation. At last she would like to thank with love Anne, Andreas and Katherine for taking such good care of her in her last years.
