Mary Ayvaliotis

Ayvaliotis, Mary (n) Chandris, passed away on November 1, 2018. Born in Cambos, Chios, Greece to the late John Chandris and Despina (n) Apesos. Mary graduated High School and worked as a pharmacist apprentice and came to the United States in 1952 to help her sister with her family and ultimately met her husband Peter. Mary worked with her husband in his printing business and later worked for the Independent Printing Company until she retired in 1991. She was involved in many charities associated with the Greek Orthodox Church including, the Ladies Philoptochos of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in New York City, and the Philoptochos of the Assumption Church in Danbury, Connecticut. She was also a volunteer at St. Michael’s Home for the Aged in Yonkers and the Treasurer of the Ladies Panchiaki Society of St. Markella of New York. She is survived by her daughter Bessie Montesano, M.D., and her husband Vincent, Debbie Scipioni and her husband Larry, Stewart Ayvaliotis and his wife Karen and her seven grandchildren Michael, Socrates, Peter, Marisa and husband Dayne, Sevalee, Zachary and Zoe along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter and her sisters Athena Bubaris and Daphne Astyphidis. In lieu of flowers Mary has requested donations be made to the Panchiaki Society of St. Markella or St. Michael’s Home for the Aged. Viewing at Barrett Funeral Home in Tenafly, N.J. will be on Tuesday, November 6th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 7th at 10:00am at the Cathedral of St. John the Theologian and burial at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood, NJ.
