DeGUZMAN, Mercedes Enedina (nee Garcia), passed away on April 24, 2022 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Bienvenido "Tito Ben"(2001). Devoted mother of Gary, Allen and his wife Tabitha, and the late Maria Kidder(2008) and her husband Tim. Loving grandmother of Charles Kidder, Sean Kidder, Ryan Kidder, Ariana Maag, Benjamin DeGuzman and Brennan DeGuzman. Cherished great-grandmother of Carsyn, the late Kennedy, and Maverick Maag , Andrew and Caleb Kidder, Eleanor Kidder and Jaxxon Kidder. Born in Manila, Philippines, Mercedes Enedina, Tita Ene, as she was called, came to the United States in 1960 with a college scholarship to New York University. Former University of the Philippines professor and former official of the Philippine Mission to the U.N., she was a longtime resident of Dumont and Montvale, NJ and Chestnut Ridge, NY. Later to be widowed and retired to North Canton, OH, then Toms River, NJ. A tireless, hard working woman,Tita Ene held positions with Western Union, New York Life underwriting and was even comptroller for a NYC architectural firm. A fun-loving an entrepreneur, she shared her time raising a family and opening a travel agency, with her love of mahjong and Atlantic City. Always bejeweled and ready to party, she was always eager to help countless family and friends share in the American dream. A devout Catholic, she was well-loved and will be greatly-missed. Visitation at Barrett Leber Funeral Home, 148 Dean Dr., Tenafly, NJ 07670 on Friday, May, 6, 2022 from 6-9 PM. Funeral Mass at St. Therese Church, 120 Monroe Ave., Cresskill, NJ 07626 on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 9:30 AM. Interment immediately to follow at St. Anthony’s Church/Cemetery, 36 W.Nyack Rd., Nanuet, NY 10954.
