It is with profound sadness and grief that the family of Sandra Norian of Alpine announces her passing on February 22nd after a brief battle with cancer. Known as “Sandy” to her family and many friends, she was the beloved wife of Edward G. Norian for over 54 years who survived her. She is also survived by her daughter Janice Norian, her daughter Lynn Hurst and husband Eric, and her son James Norian. Sandy was the cherished and devoted grandmother of Holly, Ryan, Tommy, and Charlie. Her loving sister Susan Harabedian and husband Paul, her dear cousins Ellen Turnamian and Mark Turnamian, and many nieces and nephews also survived Sandy Norian. Sandy was raised by her parents, the late Edward and Anahede Turnamian, first in Hackensack and later in Alpine. After graduating from Tenafly High School, she attended secretarial school and worked in the corporate world. Sandy then married Ed and together they raised their three children. After their children graduated high school, she attended classes at Dominican College to round out her education. More recently, Mrs. Norian spent countless hours working for the Volunteer Center of Bergen County and chaired their annual Derby Day fundraising event for many years. Sandy also co-chaired the FAR (Fund for Armenian Relief) gala event honoring the late Dr. Edgar Housepian. She did all of this while working along side her husband in his business ventures. Sandy was a renowned cook, specializing in Armenian cuisine, and frequently entertained family and friends at home. She also found pleasure in her private pastimes of gardening, walking, and knitting. Most important to Sandy, however, was spending time loving, nurturing and enjoying her family. She will be loved and missed by them forever. Visitation is Sunday from 2-6 PM at Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 26th at 10:30 AM at St. Leon’s Church, 12-61 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, 425 Engle Street, Englewood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The Nercessian Foundation, 24-25 St. Raymonds Avenue, Bronx, NY 10461 or the Fund for Armenian Relief, 630 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10016.
