John Condos

John Condos, died Friday morning 7/24/2026. He was 98 and had been in declining health for over a year. Simply put, he died of old age. He missed his wife of 65 years, Marion, terribly since she died nearly 7 years ago. Our family dearly hopes that they are reunited now. He worked for PanAm Airlines for many years and was able to travel with the whole family to the four corners of the earth. We almost always went as a family; he and our mom didn’t want to see the splendors of the world without us; he was the epitome of a family man. He was endlessly curious; he was always reading great works of literature and attending seminars about his beloved opera. He always gave the idea that there was something great out there in adult life; that there was something better, something worth expending energy to understand. Our mother was the love of his life, and he pined for her for the last 7 years; he now goes to join her. John Condos was born in Orange, New Jersey, and grew up during the Depression. During those difficult times he was born in his family’s bathtub. He had three brothers, Chris, Basil and Teddy. A younger cousin of theirs, Efthimios, came over from Greece in 1951 and has been a part of our family ever since. After a brief stint in the Marines, he moved back to Orange to go to Uppsala College (now defunct), where he met our mother, Marion. They moved to her home in Washington Heights, Manhattan joining her parents, Spiro and Doula. They moved to Florida in the 90’s and spent 20 carefree and happy years there before coming back to New Jersey to stay with their daughter Ariadne, her husband Bryan and their family. He is survived by his three children, Spyridon, Archondia and Ariadne, and his grandchildren Jean-Luc, Athena, Olivia, Hugh and John Bryan.
