Obituary for Richard A. Hubschman Sr. The Hubschman family is saddened to announce the death of Richard Hubschman Sr. on Friday January 23, 2026. Had turned 92 on 1/22/26. He was born and raised in Coytesville, NJ, graduated from Fort Lee High School and in 1952 enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva, NY. He was selected to be a Tactical Instructor, training the new recruits for their upcoming service. It was at the Base where he met his soon to be wife Maryann Valentino, who worked on the base at the switchboard. They fell in love and married in 1954. He served as a Volunteer Fireman in Englewood Cliffs for over 25 years. He was a licensed pilot, flying passengers to upstate New York and Long Island. He was a Real Estate Developer, building many projects in Bergen County. He was accomplished in many businesses. He and Maryann Co-Founded the Palisades Pre School in Fort Lee in 1964 and the Palisades Country Day School in Closter in 1991, both still considered the finest in early childhood education in Bergen County.. He was an Original Owner and Creator of the famous Soap Factory Disco in Palisades Park, NJ. He built many residential and commercial projects, owned car washes, restaurants and night clubs and many waterfront homes at the Jersey Shore. He loved boating and living on the water. He had a warm and generous heart and loved his many Schnauzers, all named Sassy. He will always be remembered for his giant sense of humor. He is survived by his son Richard and his wife Linda, his daughter Jeanne. He is the Grandfather to Richard Hubschman III and his wife Tiffany, Kate Hubschman Ligon and her husband Alec, Laura Hubschman Scuderi and her husband Jeremy, Kenny Horn and his wife Lauren and Andrea Horn and her husband Patrick. He is the Great Grandfather to Eleanor, Dakota, Violet, Dex, Charlotte and Victoria. There will be visitation on Wednesday January 28, 2026 at the Barrett Leber Funeral Home at 145 Dean Drive, Tenafly NJ from 4pm to 7pm. All are invited the funeral mass on Thursday January 29, 2026 at 10am at Mount Carmel Church 10 County Road, Tenafly, NJ followed by Entombment at Madonna Mausoleum Fort Lee, NJ.
